Danish Infant Death Association
The Danish Infant Death Association (Danish: Landsforeningen Spædbarnsdød) is a private non-profit organization economically based on state funds, memberships and private donations.
We provide professional counselling and support to bereaved parents and their network. We also offer counselling and information to workplaces and professionals. Last but not least, our network of volunteers provide different kinds of peer support to bereaved parents - as contact persons and by arranging local meetings and support groups.
Our aim is to
- Provide counselling and support to bereaved parents and their close relations
- Facilitate contact between bereaved parents
- Provide health care professionals with information, counselling and feedback in order to ensure adequate care for bereaved families
- Disseminate information and awareness regarding infant death, grief and grief reactions including creating and distributing informational publications
- Influence and participate in the general debate and attitude towards death and grief
- Collaborate internationally with organizations working to prevent infant death and support bereaved families
- Be highly informed about research regarding infant death and bereavement strategies
- Support research on causes and prevention of infant death, on bereavement support and on the psychosocial consequences of losing a child
The spoken language throughout the organization and our written material is Danish. If needed, however, we can provide contact to volunteer peer supporters, who speak other languages (e.g. English, French and German).
